Troops Smash Bandit Strongholds in Bauchi, Rescue Hostages and Recover Arms

By Maxwell Shumba

Major Breakthrough in Military Operation

Troops of the Nigerian Army under Operation WUTAN DAJI have recorded a significant operational success following a coordinated clearance mission in Kumbodoro Forest and Kumbodoro Village in Bauchi State. The offensive operation dealt a major setback to bandit networks operating within the region.

Bandit Camps Destroyed

During the operation, troops successfully cleared multiple bandit enclaves, including the notorious Azuge camps located within the Kumbodoro Forest axis. Supported by the Air Component, the forces neutralised several bandits and dismantled key operational bases, significantly weakening the group’s ability to threaten lives and property.

Hostages Rescued

The operation also led to the successful rescue of eight kidnapped victims. This development marks a major relief for affected families and highlights the continued efforts of security forces to combat kidnapping activities in the region.

Weapons and Equipment Recovered

A thorough search of the bandit enclaves resulted in the recovery of a cache of arms and operational items. These include:

4 skeletal rifles

4 dane guns

1 FN rifle magazine

1 AK-47 magazine

Additional items recovered include communication devices, boots, helmets, mobile devices, and other materials believed to have been used in criminal operations.

Recovery of Stolen Livestock

In a related development, troops deployed at Duguri, acting on credible intelligence, recovered 36 cows at Mushen Kura Village in collaboration with local vigilantes. The livestock are believed to have been abandoned by fleeing bandits due to sustained military pressure. Efforts are ongoing to identify and return the animals to their rightful owners.

Continued Commitment to Securities

The Nigerian Army has reaffirmed its commitment to restoring peace and stability across affected regions. Through intelligence-driven operations, joint force coordination, and strategic partnerships, security forces continue to intensify efforts to eliminate banditry and ensure the safety of citizens.

This operation highlights the ongoing efforts by security forces to confront banditry and restore order in affected communities. While challenges remain, such successes signal progress in the fight against insecurity.
