๐Ÿ•Š️ ECL FAMILY CONFIRMS PRIVATE BURIAL IN SOUTH AFRICA — ZAMBIA REACTS ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฒ๐Ÿ‡ฟ๐Ÿ‡ฆ

By BalanceHub4

The family of the late President Edgar Chagwa Lungu has officially announced that his funeral and burial will be held privately in Johannesburg, South Africa, as per his and the family’s wishes.

In a heartfelt press statement issued by Hon. Makebi Zulu, the family expressed gratitude to the Government of South Africa for its support, and thanked President Cyril Ramaphosa and Minister Ronald Lamola for honouring their space to mourn in peace.

They emphasized that the decision was deeply personal — grounded in emotion, privacy, and dignity.

๐Ÿ—ฃ️ But Here’s What We Think at BalanceHub4:

We understand and respect the family’s pain, and yes — they have the right to decide how and where to say goodbye.
But we must speak a truth that many Zambians are feeling today:

๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ President Lungu was not just a family man — he was a national leader.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ He carried Zambia’s flag on his shoulders, led our people through storms, and deserves to be mourned by the very citizens he served.
๐Ÿ‘‰๐Ÿพ To bury him quietly, in another land, feels like a missed opportunity to give him the honour, unity, and national closure he truly earned.

“A leader who gave his life to Zambia deserves a farewell from the land he led.”

๐Ÿ’ก What’s Been Happening Behind the Scenes?

๐Ÿ”น A standoff between the Lungu family and the Government led to the cancellation of earlier repatriation plans.
๐Ÿ”น Reports say the family stood firm that President Hakainde Hichilema should not attend the funeral, honoring what they claim were ECL’s final wishes.
๐Ÿ”น Secretary to the Cabinet Patrick Kangwa had earlier urged calm and dignity, noting that dialogue was ongoing.
๐Ÿ”น Meanwhile, the nation entered and exited mourning without even seeing the body of its former President.

๐Ÿ’ฌ What This Means for Zambia

Whether we agree or not, the decision has triggered deep emotion nationwide — sorrow, confusion, and disappointment. This moment is bigger than politics.

It’s a wake-up call.

➡️ That leadership doesn’t end with power — it lives on in legacy.
➡️ That even in grief, we must rise above division and protect the spirit of “One Zambia, One Nation.”
➡️ That no Zambian leader should be laid to rest without the love of the land he helped lead.

๐Ÿ•Š️ May Edgar Chagwa Lungu rest in peace, even if it is far from the soil he once called home.

From the BalanceHub4 family —
We mourn. We respect. We reflect.
And we hope, that someday, we’ll find our way back to unity.
